Types of Strapping Systems Keeping your
packaging secure for transport and storage is essential. There is a range of
strapping systems available for all packing requirements.
In this week’s blog at Securit Ropes & Packaging Ltd , we look at the different types
of strapping systems and their variety of benefits.
Steel For a heavy-duty packing solution, steel strapping
systems offer a range of benefits. They are resilient, strong and have the
highest tensile strength of any other types.
They can be as thick or wide as required to hold the
package together securely. Steel does not stretch as much as plastic and is
less likely to wear through against sharp-edged products.
A range of finishes can be applied to the material to
provide corrosion resistance and more. These finishes include:
Paint Paint and Wax Zinc Paint and Wax Each
option for surface finishes is tailored to the requirements of individual jobs.
Wax, for example, is used to distribute the tension around the package evenly.
This reduces abrasion around the load corners and ensures the steel remains as
unworn as possible.
Polyester There are three plastic strapping system types,
including polyester, polypropylene and nylon. Polyester is a cost-effective,
reliable and resilient option that is commonly used. Some of the benefits of
this system include:
Resistant to
Heat Durable Efficient Impact
Absorption Low Maintenance High Load
Stability Polyester is easily used in powered and handheld strapping tools . It is less likely to snag in
the equipment that other plastic options ensuring a smooth and efficient
packaging process.
Nylon and Polypropylene Polypropylene straps come in a range of widths and
thicknesses and are ideal for light to medium-duty applications, including
pallets and bundles. This is a very flexible option that can be moulded around
any package, no matter how irregular the shape.
Nylon is more expensive than polyester and
polypropylene, so is not used as often. However, it is the best option for
packaging in cold environments. This is because the material is more resistant
to warping under stress when put under pressure for an extended time.
Uses for Strapping There are many uses for all types of strapping systems,
from bundling newspapers to securing pallets of bricks. Other purposes can
include:
Holding
Agricultural Bales Reinforcing
Pallet Boxes Closing Shipping
Containers With the addition of edge protectors under the steel or
plastic, strapping systems can be used to safely and efficiently secure a wide
variety of products.
